This is a personal project I've been working on during the past few months. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, a city in southern France, was my main inspiration for this environment. This was made on Unreal Engine 5.6.
I wanted to create a soft, warm atmosphere, achieved through the warmth of the stone and the abundant greenery. But I also wanted to strike a balance between the rounded and more angular forms of my architecture, which I tried to reflect in the materials and their application through very distinct transitions.
I really love the hidden corners you can find in old villages, which is why I created various little living spaces and played around with the heights of the different architectural components.
I used two trim sheets for this environment: one for the decoration of the main building, as you can see in the image above, and the second for the wood elements, such as the windows, large doors, planks, and beams. For the main building, I also created a few seamless textures with Substance Designer and painted the materials with the Texture Color tool from 5.5.
For the vegetation, I painted my textures on Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint and assembled the different parts in Blender.
